Daily Routine and Care

Every day at Derbyfield Kennel follows a structured schedule to keep pets active, engaged, and cared for:

7:30 AM – Feeding begins according to owner instructions, followed by cleaning and sanitizing sleeping areas
Dogs enjoy playtime in individual yards while their spaces are cleaned
Free access between sleeping areas and attached runs during the day
3:00 PM – Second feeding, followed by more play sessions
5:00 PM – Pets are settled in their sleeping areas with fresh water and a treat

We provide Blue Seal Entrust dog food at no extra charge, though owners may bring their own food for special diets. Washable bedding is supplied by the kennel. Safe toys are welcome, though rawhide, rope toys, and greenies are not permitted due to choking hazards.

Health and Emergency Care

Medications, including oral and topical treatments, are administered as needed. (Please note that injections are not provided.) In the event of illness or injury, pets are taken to their veterinarian of record whenever possible. If unavailable, emergency care is provided by CARE (Cape Animal Referral and Emergency), conveniently located less than one mile away. Owners or emergency contacts are notified immediately.

Check-In and Check-Out Hours

Check-In: Monday–Saturday, 8 AM–3 PM; Sunday, 9–11 AM
Check-Out: Monday–Saturday, 8 AM–5 PM; Sunday, 9–11 AM

Boarding fees begin at check-in, regardless of the time. Pets checked out before 11 AM will not be charged for that day. If a pet receives a bath or groom on the day of departure, no charge is applied for that day, regardless of pick-up time.

Since 1983, Derbyfield Kennel has been a family-run pet care facility serving Harwich and the Cape Cod community with the same love and dedication we give our own pets. Our three-acre property is designed for safety, comfort, and happiness, featuring 60 indoor and outdoor dog runs, 10 spacious multi-shelf cat condos, fenced wooded play yards, a grooming salon, and a training yard.

Designed for Comfort and Safety

Our kennel spans three wooded acres and is directly attached to the owners’ residence, ensuring round-the-clock supervision. Pets stay in climate-controlled sleeping areas with access to outdoor runs and raised resting beds. Music is played throughout the facility to help pets feel relaxed, and nightly bed checks with treats are part of our daily routine.

Dogs enjoy indoor/outdoor runs and fenced grassy yards for daily exercise. Smaller dogs and puppies are housed in 4’ x 8’ runs up front, while larger dogs have 4’ x 10’ to 4’ x 15’ runs out back. Puppies receive extra attention with more frequent feedings, outdoor time, and rest.
Cats are housed separately in large, multi-shelf condos, allowing space to climb, hide, and relax in a quiet, stress-free setting.
Birds, rabbits, and small pets are kept in their own cages in secure, calm areas of the facility.
